Title: Thin/weak Sock lamb
Post by: graham-j on June 26, 2021, 12:15:37 pm
Hi, Got a group of sock lambs in a shed, they have all been weened and  on creep with a bit of hay for the 4 weeks and are all looking good except one, its very thing and now getting week.
I have pulled it out of the shed as its getting trampled, its poo is the normal black balls so I presume its gut is working properly. It seems more interested in eating its straw bedding than the creep or hay.
What is the best way to get some strength back into this lamb and build it up a bit. I did think about putting it back on milk. Don't know what to do for the best.
Any advice appreciated.

Don't put it back on milk. Once weaned it's digestive system has adapted to be a ruminant. I would get a trace element drench for it and dose the rest of them also - which should give a boost. It will also last for ages so can be used later on - so money not wasted. Maybe dose it with glucose also to give it some energy.
I once read that beer is a good stimulant for ruminants, and have in the past drenched an ailing ewe with it, with good results.
