Title: Fertile eggs wanted Angus
Post by: Rosemary on June 01, 2021, 06:02:31 pm
Hi. Does anyone have any fertile hen eggs in Angus? A friend in Arbroath has a couple of broody hens and would like to stick some eggs under them. My cockerels have 40 hens each so I doubt if any of ours are fertile, so can't help.

TIA

There seems to be a real problem with hatching eggs at the moment. During lockdown, lots of people have started keeping hens and so there is a great demand for point of lay hens. The two breeders that we have bought hatching eggs from for years are only selling POL hens this year. We were fortunate that one of our neighbours has kept a cockerel this year and so has fertile eggs. Otherwise our broodies would have been very frustrated :-(

Would they take day old chicks? I’ve a hatch due Wednesday/Thursday and don’t plan to keep them all. 14 Marrans eggs in, and speckled Sussex (though want to keep some of these). I’ll on you.
