I am just ordering some meat chicks - option of two different breeds. As it has been such a long time since we have done any, I cannot remember what breed they were or if indeed I had a choice at the time....
[/size]So, which ones to go for? They are to be raised outdoors on grass and I would prefer slower growing rather than really fast.

Ross are the standard commercial really really fast growing footballs.
Sasso is a French company - most of their chickens are slightly slower growing and suited for organic and free range condition.
If you can you can get bit of both!
That way can can dispatch Ross-Cobb first and do the Sasso couple of weeks later.
I like the red Sasso the most.

We had Sasso 957s, reared them the same as you, and they were amazing.

Thank you - Sasso it is.

Did they come from Craigievern Poultry? That's where I am ordering from.

I seem to remember vaguely that you recommended Craigievern before, just we didn't get our act together last year. But given that it is going to be another stay-at-home summer, we decided we could do a batch this year.
