Hi all. I rescued a single pig a few years ago. I had him spayed and he's coming up to 5 years old. I take him for a walk around the field every day which he loves - waggy tail, runs, barks, lies down for scratches. However when not on a walk he just spends all day sleeping in his shed. I don't think this is right.
So we want to introduce a second pig to him for companionship.
Ive read up a lot on it - the initial fighting, staged introduction but one thing I can't find an answer to
Can I get a second spayed male to be his companion or will this not work?
If anyone has done this before and has any other tips or advice I would be really grateful!
Thank you for your help

Pigs love interacting with people and with other pigs. People will tell you that no animal should be kept on it's own but actually many are. Pigs spend a lot of time sleeping even when they have a companion but they will have someone to sleep with :)
There is no reason why you can't get another spayed male. You may find one at a rescue centre. I would look for one of a similar age so you don't find yourself needing another companion when you lose the older one.
If your male is spayed then you could take a female.
