I have been asked by a lady who runs a local animal charity to look out for an oldish donkey to keep her's company. Apparently she's had two donkeys for years, then one died and the survivor has been pining. So if anyone knows of an older donkey wanting a good home and preferably free please contact me. I believe the lone donkey is a female so an entire jack would not be suitable.

There is a branch of the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary near leeds somewhere. My SIL gets her donkeys from there but dont know more than that sorry.

Many thanks Hermit - I'd forgotten about them and they're not too far away. Will relay that info on.

There is also a Donkey sanctuary near us, St Boswells in the Scottish Borders. I am sure they would be able to "foster out" a companion donkey. But it may be a bit far, just in case you don't get anything local.

Thanks Danielle, Will pass that on. Presume it is not totally decrepid and on its last legs!

lol, no! shes fine, my father in law got her a couple of years ago with a foal, shes barren so he doesnt want her anymore he is going to take her to the meat man, but if i find her a nice home im sure that would be nicer :) she has been a herd breeding mare all her life so she isnt very handlable but leads quietly when caught

Danielle - Spoke to my friend who helps at the sanctuary. Apparently the old lady who runs it (she's 90!!) is adamant she wants another donkey so is going to ask Donkey Sanctuary. But thanks anyway for the offer.

He's not really going to send her to the meat man? I'm speechless.

He will do just that :'(
He said he was going to put her in the sales, i said it would be fairer for her to go to the to the meat man tbh! Shes a wild aged (22 years old) barren pony, if she was to be put in the sale she would be sent from pillar to post! and who knows what she would be done with :'(
I also said he shouldnt be buying random ponies in the first place!!! >:(
It is a shame! she is a registered section A pony and a good breed standard too
She would be a ideal field companion (if you just left her to it and didnt need to get near her ::) ) or if she had a little handling work ;)
