Hi folks - we were about to move our 3 Zwartbles into a different field having brought them onto a smaller paddock near the house while we sheared/sprayed etc. But our neighbour commented that we shouldn't as they may get too fat before breeding in the Autumn?
Thoughts on this? Field was grazed by them all winter and is around an acre in size. They've not been in there for 2-3 months so good grass growth and clearly never ate it completely down over winter.
All 3 are yearlings so will be breeding for the first time this year.

I just put my yearlings into some fairly long grass, it’s permanent pasture and had no fertiliser though, I would rather a slightly too well conditioned ewe than a thin one. They will lose a bit over winter anyhow. They are still growing too remember.

They should be fine, Zwartbles don't tend to get over-fat :thumbsup:

Thanks both. Our neighbour has ryelands and is a traditional Welsh farmer so I guess a different perspective. But they tried to escape yesterday from the area they are in which I think is a good sign they want some fresh grass!

I would put them on it without any hesitation, an acre of long grass isn't ideal for three sheep - but in farming, situations are often far from ideal and you just go with it :)
