HI all, we have a British Lop who by our dates is due to farrow next Wednesday. However yesterday morning her bottom was very swollen and red, the teat I checked had milk and she had begun to nest. So...been checking her for the last 24 hours and this morning her bottom seems smaller and less swollen, I just checked every teat down one side (she was lying down) and no milk! Any advice as I am really worried something has gone wrong with the piglets, thanks ???

Usually the milk doesn't come in til about 24 hours before they farrow. I had a similar thing with my Kune Kune, got a bit of milk one day then nothing - 3 days later she had 'proper' milk (squirting out if her udder rubbed on anything) and shortly after......piglets ! Again, with her the back end seemed to swell a bit, then be less swollen and all of a sudden it was VERY, VERY swollen. If she looks well, seems relaxed (eating and drinking okay) and doesn't have a temperature I would just keep an eye on her for the meantime.
It's probably just the equivalent of Braxton Hicks in women ;)
Good luck !

she is relaxed - each time I go in she rolls over for her tummy to be rubbed! Still eating a little and drinking fine, thanks very much for the reassurance. Will keep a close eye on her over the next couple of days :pig:

Belly pork ( British Lop) had 15 piglets last night - unfortunately two were still born but the rest are strong and doing well! They are so beautiful, will try to get the photos up on here later

Not yet, no! We are so proud of them and mum we spend most of out free time just sitting on a bale of straw watching them! Cant think of a much better way to spend your time, our son (9) saw most of them being born so he is now addicted too :pig:
