Hello strangers
Long time since I've been here :innocent:
Been away from livestock for a few years, but my circumstances have changed :excited: :excited: :excited: and I'm back in the position of being able to safely keep some animals again.
For those of you who know me, I'm looking forward to catching up and hearing how you're all doing. For those of you who don't, I'm Karen. Mum of 4 kids, 2 German Shepherds and 3 cats. I live on a redundant farm in South Lanarkshire with 130 acres of mixed broadleaf and softwood trees and a small orchard. Previously I bred pigs (rare breed and Kunekune) and kept Shetland cattle, goats, chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, ducks and had a couple of ponies and my sadly departed and very much missed donkey, Murphy.
I'm hoping to get some orphan lambs this year so will probably be on looking for advice and reassurance - a new learning curve for me ;)
Looking forward to getting involved again, I've missed my TAS family

Hiya everybody  Missed you all :bouquet:
Penninehillbilly, I've not moved but the nightmare neighbours and their pack of free ranging rottweilers have ;) We took the heart wrenching decision to re-home the animals we had left after a rather heated confrontation about livestock worrying - dogs and pigs/horses/chickens :-[ I was being SUPER nice and calm about it, but sadly you can't reason with stupid :innocent: I didn't want to take the chance of any animals getting hurt. I had the feeling that they weren't going to hang around and embrace the country life.
Thankfully my patience paid off and they got fed up but those three years felt like an eternity.
So we're just starting back with some orphan lambs (6 of them) and I'm going to clean up and repaint the chicken house, maybe get one or two chooks. Not looking to go back to where we were with breeding pigs year round (and definitely not the numbers we had before!). Maybe a couple of weaners next year after the lambs tidy the paddocks a bit and maybe a wee coo or two in the future :innocent: I'll just let it develop organically ;)
