Title: Dead pig
Post by: Ben155 on August 04, 2019, 12:35:39 pm
Hi everyone.
I went out to feed the pigs this morning and found one dead. She was ten year old pet kune kune.
There was blood coming from her snout, as well as a bit of puss.
My first thought was that her brother might have attacked her, but they have been sharing for their lives without much issue.

Has anyone seen symptoms in pigs like this before? Quite a bit of blood coming from snout, puss, etc.
I know she wasn’t the healthiest of pigs because she was quite overweight.
Thanks for any help.

That looks like a sign of a respiratory disease.

I would of thought Pneumonia, might be an idea to speak to your vets to get a proper diagnosis, especially as you have others in with her.

Generally when our pigs die with those symptoms we would put down the cause of either respiratory problems or a heart attack. Did she have purple ears, chest and belly?

Personally i'd lean towards the heart attack theory. Old age and overweight aren't great bed fellows.

But i'm just guessing at the cause. A vet would be able to advise far better than i could.
