Title: Carrying on the economic crisis topic
Post by: greenfingers on October 09, 2008, 10:09:55 am
We bought a bale of sawdust at the beginning of the week for the chicken shed.  The lady that owns the business said that next week the bales are going up in price and by the middle of November she may not be able to get them.  The saw mills will be in short supply because they will not have the work because there will be no wooden frames to make for the houses because the builders will not be building because they are not selling the houses because no one has any money to move because of the current financial crisis. What a situation to be in, we can't bed down our animals because of the credit crunch.
My suggestion is if you need sawdust for any of your livestock get it now.  We can use newspapers for the chickens if needed, they are recyclable.

We have found the same situation were we live, shavings are hard to come by as well as pellets for our stove. We decided against putting in a wood stove this year as it would require a full rebuild of the chimney and that was beyond our budget. We put in a pellet stove as it is still cheaper than oil heat. Little did I know that the factory that makes the pellets makes them from shavings from lumber yards that are now not putting out lumber... It makes me stop and realize how everything is so closely related.  :-\
