What are the pros and cons of self locking feed barrier for in wintered cows?

I've seen them used in some of the big dairy farms I used to visit with RHET. They found them useful for catching animals for routine examination, AI etc I think they are quite expensive though.

Having to handle my cattle on my own often I felt more secure to know I had these, so got some made at a local firm,  they didn't seem that expensive for what they were, but the cattle soon came to recognize the click and unless you were very quick.... ;D  All in all they didn't get used often, but they were useful when you did need them, at my last 2 Red Poll were good big boys before they went!! ;D  But very delicious ;)

All the best
