Post by: kev meaney on September 25, 2018, 10:31:33 am
Hi

I've 2 lincoln longwool lambs, 2 Portland's and 1 greyfaced Dartmoor what weights should these be for slaughter?

Thanks

I don't know those breeds but I sell my lambs to a commercial buyer and he likes them with a decent cover of fat and ideally 38-45kg

Don't get too worried about weights , condition is the critical bit , google condition scoring sheep and go from there  . Depends on what you are wanting them for if selling live auction then they need to be fit , if private consumption then they can be fatter .  Never handled your breeds but guessing the Portlands will get fat at lightweights  and the Lincoln's may struggle to get fat at big weights
