Hi all, I've been lurking for a while - absorbing lots of information!
I don't have a smallholding but have dreamed of one as long as I can remember! I DO have a large garden and I grow veg in raised beds (when I can overcome the weeds) and I have kept chickens for 3 years now. Currently I have three gorgeous girls, 1 Calder Ranger, 1 Pied Sussex and 1 Sussex Heritage Skyline (as told to me by the knowledgable lady I bought them from) They all lay different coloured eggs, (1 blue, 1 light brown , 1 chestnut brown) and are a joy to keep.
I read the forum daily (ish) and dream of lots of chickens, a cockerel, piggies and bees!
So I am now working on a financial plan to achieve my dream within a few years I hope............
Keep writing everyone, you are my inspiration!

Welcome to the forum! Which of your chicken lays the blue eggs? I have been on the look out for
Araucana hens - they lay blue/green eggs. It would be a novalty for my grandsons to eat blue eggs!
Enjoy the forum, you will get loads of help and information here.

Hi Kate, it's the Sussex Heritage Skyline whose the blue egg girl. The poultry lady said there was about a 70% chance of her laying blue eggs so I couldn't resist! She isn't quite as friendly as the Calder Ranger, who is a sweetie, but she is very beautiful. Any children who have gone to collect the eggs are usually astonished at the three different colours! Come to think of it most adults like the blue ones too (are they blue inside?? ::))

Hi and welcome.
The eggs will be lovely. We've just bought some Crested Cream legbar pullets, which lay pale green eggs. Our Marans should lay dark brown eggs if they ever lay at all. We had a Brown Leghorn that laid white eggs and a friend of mine reserved all of them, blew them and has them on display in a basket.
