Hi everyone this is my first post.
Advice please we have about 5 acres and no animals yet. What would you advice we buy a tractor, compact tractor, topper, finishing mower, American sit on zero turn.
We have tried 2 flails and used our L200 to pull it round the field as advised by 2 different flail sellers but the first kept breaking down and the second caught fire so they have gone back. The grass is about knee height and falling over now. Advice greatly appreciated.

If you are planning to get grazing animals in due course, I’d be inclined to see if a local friendly farmer would either top or graze it for you until then. If you do buy a small tractor and topper, maybe buy second hand, then you won’t lose so much money when you sell them again, once the livestock are keeping the grass short.

I wouldn't invest in any machinery just yet, as soon as you start getting livestock you might never need it again! If its well fenced could you ask someone to graze it with cattle for a couple of weeks, or if good enough quality could you could ask a contractor to make haylage from it? its in short supply this year because of the heatwave so is selling for a premium.
