Title: Tagging Tools for Pigs
Post by: ambriel on January 23, 2011, 11:27:21 pm

I've been thinking about tagging our three Kune Kune pigs and was wondering whether anyone had used the sort of tags and tools shown in this Ebay advert: Link to Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pack-of-10-Laser-Marked-Pig-Identity-Tags-Applicator_W0QQitemZ140410080676QQcategoryZ11751QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D1%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6580436481279094012)

Yup, that's similar to the one I use
http://www.fearing.co.uk/multiplier/Default.aspx (http://www.fearing.co.uk/multiplier/Default.aspx)
You just pop each half of the tag onto the applicator and apply to the ear (a bit like the old ear piercing gun)

Ditto except that I force anyone else available to do it for me.  I am a pathetic coward.

Lol HM I am trying to weedle my dad into doing it but he's not keen either. Where do you get the tags themselves from?

There are lots of places - but they've got to be pre-printed ones.
Fearings is my first port of call (they give discounts to BPA members ;))
It's easier to do it when they are young or distracted by food  ;D

Don't be Gareth  :-*
I used Fearing when buying in everything initially, I haven't used your tags (and I'm ashamed to admit I've not actually checked how your prices compare yet) but next time I'm ordering stuff I'll be sure to pay you a visit  ;) ;D

Tyre drinkers and everything else arrived today btw - many many thanks  ;D
They look just the business and it'll take Oor Sydney a while to figure out how to trash them  ;)
For anyone who has problems with pigs destroying basins/trugs etc you should have a look at these https://www.suppliesforsmallholders.co.uk/tyre-bowl-feeder-drinker-p-1276.html (https://www.suppliesforsmallholders.co.uk/tyre-bowl-feeder-drinker-p-1276.html) they are really solid and the way they're shaped the pigs can't get them out the tyre to throw all around their field (and trash in the process) ;)

How's the wrist ? Hope it's not too bad ?
Karen x

Hi Karen,

Glad the stuff arrived OK (eventually) - Just replied to your pm.

Tyre bowl feeders are good and very popular - we sell out as quickly as we can get them, so be aware you may have to wait a few days for re-stocks.

When comparing Tags with anyone dont forget to check the tag price WITH the shipping - all our tags are free shipping (unless you order a tagger as well in which case a shipping charge applies)

Oh, and thanks for asking - the wrist is on the mend :-)

I don't think there's ANYTHING in the world that's Hilary proof HM  ;)  :o :o :o
But it would certainly take her a wee while to get through these  ;D
