Title: Goat coats
Post by: colliewoman on December 02, 2012, 09:52:19 pm

Does anyone have a pattern for making goat coats please?
I know there are peeps on here who sell them very reasonably but I am pennies poor but materials rich
I want a few to have on hand as Miss Enid is away with the Billy and been reported to have been spotted shivering a few times so has had a coat put on   Bless Mr Stilton's owner!
I don't want her getting a shock to the system when she gets home and has no coat :o

If you get no joy with a proper pattern I will measure Ellie's (which is a dog coat). How big is Miss Enid?

Ellie doesn't wear it often now, less need now I've insulated the byre tin roof, but like to have it as an option on -18C nights  :goat: Rowan has a much better undercoat herself  :goat:

Bless Mr Stilton's owner, as you say  :thumbs up:

I found a pattern on the Internet but can't remember the site.  I found it by googling goat coat so it might be worth having a go.

I found a few via google, I'm not very good at sewing but made a very nice goat coat.

there were some by -
Maxine Kinne
and
the one I used,
Pat Hendrickson -

pattern is on

which I found useful
I used a backed waterproof material rather than for one for warmth.

MGM beat me to it! - SNAP!  ;D
the first link on the web page is broken, you have to click on 'project 2' near the page bottom

I didn't use a pattern for the coat I made. I measured from neck to tail and the from front of chest to level with the tail...cut the neck accordingly. It fits like a dream and as I made it out of an old sleeping bag, it is as snug as anything

A sleeping bag would be ideal.  I made mine out of a quilted bedspread inside a duvet cover.  Not quite as warm as a sleeping bag but not bad.
