Title: hello from dumfries and galloway

im embarrassed to admit ive been lurking here for years then joined over a year ago and still not introduced myself "guilty as charged and i accept the consequences   :fc:" now thats over !
   HELLO ,there really is a wealth of information and knowledge on here and thank you all for doing that because without the input the likes of me would be at a huge loss
   we are not really smallholders (yet) but moved back to d&g just over 2 years back now from a house in a town in devon to a small cottage with just under 1/3 an acre  ,we would have ideally liked more land but got what  we could afford ! i think we have managed to make the most of what we have so far, we manage to grow most of our own fruit and veg ,certainly over the summer and via the freezer for a fair part of the winter we kept hybrid layers for a couple of years  along with old english game LF and a few banties but now only keep the LF game "the hybrids(sussex types) dropped off the lay fairly quickly and never really looked tidy  ::) , i guess that comes as a down side  to getting more eggs " so we are self sufficient in eggs and a small amount of meat and reared our own birds under broodies for the last couple of years ,hopefully we will be able to rent a bit of land in the near future off the farm next door to expand the livestock side of things a bit  ,we would like to start by growing a few meat birds on and maybe a few turkeys and geese if we get the opportunity.
  its been quite a slog with the renovations so far but now things are easing and were enjoying life a bit more  :thumbsup:
