Title: SCOPS on Countryfile - 20th November
Post by: Marches Farmer on November 20, 2016, 10:55:19 am
Unless it has to be rescheduled there's an item on wormer resistance due to be aired this evening.  I usually have little time for much of the content (apart from Adam Henson's bit) but might be worth a look.

Blood test for antibodies so you can select sheep with inherent resistance for breeding!  Sign me up!

Was interesting ... sounds like a good move forward if not too expensive

And this is one of the many areas where the rare breeds can be useful.  Some rare breeds are noted for their worm resistance, so that characteristic can be bred into more commercial breeds from the rare breeds.  Up here, at Mordun I believe, they are researching into the genetics of worm resistance in rare breeds.  Our now ex flock of Soays were blood tested as part of their research - haven't had any feedback yet.
