Post by: Crazyboutdaanimals on April 13, 2012, 10:29:15 pm
do normal lambs wag their tail like a dog when being feed, one of my lambs does, but the other 10 wag theirs randomly like what you see in the field in the lambs we've had this yr and last yr i have never seen it ???

Our lambs certainly waggle their tails when feeding and in fact it's a fair sign that they are 'latched on' when newborn - not definite as they seem to do it out of hopefulness too.

Yes, I think they often do it from hopefulness too.
But my first little tup lamb this year wags his tail quite a bit  :) Some sheep do it to scatter their poo (as do hippopotami  :D)

Yes, mine wag when they are thinking of a suckle and when they are latched on.

The ewes wag theirs when its lifted and they have had a poo!!! Spent far too much time staring at sheeps bottoms lately so I know  ;D  ::)

If you really want to see fast wagging tails then I have seen nothing like primitives feeding.  One of my Shetlands produces lambs with tails that wag so fast when feeding all you can see is a blur.  It fascinates me which I guess means I should get out more as well  ;D

Some days I seem to carry my camera around all day and all I see is the back ends of my flock, but as soon as I leave the camera somewhere they all start being interesting.  Like those old Kit-Kat adverts  ;D

Some sheep do wag their tails or in my 'Herdys' case her 'stumpy tail' especially when I rub under her chin/ears and scratch her back.  She nearly 'comatose' with delight at the gently rub, come up and asks 'with a wag of her tail' to be fussed with.  she had twin lambs this year - one ram lamb, in-dependant little *od who doesn't like to be touch but the little ewe lamb does the same as her mum and 'wags' her tail when having her chin rubbed.  I run my hand down her front legs so she will get used to me picking them up when I will need to trim them later on.  She also likes her back gently scratched like her mum. :sheep:

None of my other girls do it.

I think so too. ;D ;D Can't part with her now, that's the trouble with lambs you want to keep them all...

I've a mixed bunch of shetland colours - now a year old and for some reason the black ones ping more than the rest - just another thing to add to the mix :D :D

Most of my lambs wag their tails when feeding, some of the older sheep also do the same when I scratch them near the tail, as do my rams!  Perhaps it's a pleasure thing  :)
