Title: Mouldy Hay...
Post by: Kitchen Cottage on January 20, 2017, 02:07:35 pm
I have a lot of mouldy hay where the rain got at it.  Can I put this on my beds or should I burn it?  It had mushrooms in some of it and its totally black.    I live in clay and keep adding organic material but don't know if this is contaminated or okay.

I did google but couldn't find the response.

Thanks

I would take the string off the bales and leave it all in a pile to finish the composting process.  Wear a mask as the spores will get you, but once it's wet through it will rot down fine and add wonderful humus to your ground when you spread it.

If you can cover the bales it will rot down more quickly.
