Mash is pellets ground down and wetted as far as I know, although my Gran used to make up her own mash for our hens with porridge oats, veg and scraps

Yes, but why?  Mine are fed pellets and mixed grain in tehir feeder twice a day - a measured cup based on what the average hen needs and the number of hens, in addition i thow down veg scraps when available.  My new ex batts coming on 31st will get ground down pellets mixed in with the whole ones to phase them in gradually.  They will learn about teh veg scraps from the others

we use pellets, and boiled left over veg, but some chickens will only eat the dry pellets

ah ok. So do you gring your own pellets or just buy them? you serve it hot or cold? Supose with mash, I could put in cuttle fish bone ground up and add the odd vitamins, Although my hens all happily eat pellets along with mixed corn in the morning then at nite, along with some canary mix, I could mix a rather healthy treat!

Sounds like a good plan to try for fun - it's another way of enjoying our animals, feeding them special treats. ;D

good way to get calcium in anyway, They dont even look at a cuttle fish bone, so could sneak it in, within a mash, some vitamin c everyones a winner
