Title: which feeds?
Post by: white-blazes on May 09, 2011, 09:20:08 am
We bought pig nuts from the local agri store when the pigs arrived a month ago.  I have upped their feed now, but the lady next to my land whose friend had pigs last year said they fed them up on Barley towards the end.

Just wondering what you feed yours.

Ours get all the veg and fruit waste as well as their hard feed.

Same as HM, check the protein content on your feed bag it should be 16% for sows & weaners and you can get Grower feed at 18 - 20%. We start piglets off on grower as they're smaller nuts and move them onto sow/weaners nuts at about 10 - 12 wks phased in.

Definitely don't add barley towards the end. It will put more fat on them at a time when they are naturally laying down fat.
