Title: Proportions of different cuts of meat from a cow
Post by: Simon O on October 30, 2014, 09:51:58 am
I wonder if anyone can advise me what proportions of the different cuts of meat you are likely to get from a Belted Galloway steer. I was told I may get 260-300 kg meat in total. Any advice welcome, thanks.

Thanks Rosemary. I'm thinking my BG is similar size to your Shetlands. Just been looking on the internet and most info I can see comes from the states - here's one I just found which is somewhat helpful:   http://gpsranch.com/Quantity-of-Meat-in-a-Beef-Cow.php (http://gpsranch.com/Quantity-of-Meat-in-a-Beef-Cow.php)

Ours were 352 and 324kg deadweight. I didn't get weight from the abattoir last year but got 163kg beef and beef products (Lorne, beefburgers)
