Title: Down (feather) Processing
Post by: Womble on July 04, 2012, 08:05:21 pm

Hi Folks,

Chris P duck and his aromatic friends are just about ready for the wok now, but in the spirit of Huge Furry Whipping Tool, it would be nice to be able to use their fluffiest bits for something more positive than compost  ;D .

Does anybody know how I might go about salvaging and cleaning the down so I can use it to stuff a sleeping bag or similar?

Cheers!

If it's filthy wash a small ammount at a time in warm water, no detergent and put in a biscuit tn with lots of holes punched in the top and sides and put in a hottish oven. Keep checking for dryness.
If it's just to kill crawlies, don't wash but put in the tin and in a hot oven for a two or three minutes :)
