hey all
i have seen that a lot of folk do it and it looks quite simple to do but how is it actually done? and how is the loom made?

There are lots of instructions for making a peg loom on line although OH bought mine for me. There are also lots of instructions for using it.
The pegs have holes in them which you thread the warp through. I used some cotton crochet thread that I had for the warp.
Then its just a case of weaving the fleece in and out of the pegs from end to end until they are full up. You then lift the pegs out of the holes and push what you have woven off the pegs onto the warp. Its as simple as that.
It does make a very open weave though so I would suggest that if you are aking a rug its only useful for an area which doesn't get much footfall. I made a very small rug which my dog loves to sit on.

ye it was just a hearth rug that i was wanting to make as they give a really rural homey look to a room, least i know know what i wan for my 21st :D

also how much wool would be needed to make a rug about a 100cmX50?

Garvie, thats difficult to say. I found that if I twist the fleece to make a firmer rug then it takes more fleece as its more compact.
It does take a fair amount of fleece though. I would experiement with a small piece if I were you so that you get a fair idea yourself.

was gonna start with a cat rug for in her bed so i get my cushions back but think thats just wishful thinking more than anything else haha

Garvie, thats exactly what I did although mine was for the dog. Mind you he still has one of the cushions underneath his rug :roflanim:

she has a radiator bed that she loves so thought a wool mat would cozy up better than a cushion for her as she is a little soft to the extent she refuses to go outside unless its glorious weather with 50+ sun block on as she is ginger haha

Not got pics of the loom itself colliewoman but there is plenty of info on the net on how to make one its pretty straight forward.
