I have the opportunity to use a 1.5 acre paddock from now until the end of January, what would be a fair rent for it please?

Half a lamb. I have access to 3 acres and give the farmer a lamb

Thanks.... I already give them half a lamb for looking after my animals when I am on holiday :thumbsup: and I can't spare a whole one.... do you thing £5 per week is reasonable?.. That will be about £65...

30p a week per animal if theyre small, 50p if larger breeds.
£60/acre a year tops if you have it all year.

I had my boys away for the summer in a neighbours (beautiful) paddocks.
Wouldn't accept anything from me at all. Just gave them a bottle of wine when we moved them.
They were just grateful to have it grazed off.

Thanks everyone..... it is very convenient, I can see 95% of the field from my bedroom window so I don't mind paying over the odds, just wanted to check £5 a week wasn't too little and it seems it is quite a lot! So will go with that, as the neighbours are very good to me. :thumbsup:

It all comes down to what its worth to you, although £65 or half a lamb is pretty fair considering its so close by.
Worst thing would be having to see someone else's sheep there every morning from the bedroom window knowing you then have to travel to check yours (there is the cost saving).
Look after the paddock well by pulling out thistles and docks, maybe strim around the edges and catch the odd mole if your able.
That's always worked well for me and I've usually been given the ground for the time I have the sheep on and certainly asked back. Some people might say that's too much in the way of effort after all you are paying for it but land is getting harder to find in some areas especially on your doorstep.

Take advantage of the situation and ask them for a 3-5 year contract. Sounds an ideal location to me.

I rent out a 4 acre field this winter till march for £60 per acre....but I let him leave his lambs on the other 6 acres free which I charged him from April to Sept at £60 an acre as well.He is offered plenty of free grazing but he likes my fencing/auto water/access to barn for storage and electric for shearing.I also keep my eye out for them and I"m allowed to chuck them the odd apple.I even help out with lambing/feeding...he is 80 years .
I think he has had to move the around so much over the years in pursuit of free grazing....he's just glad he has them in the one location.And I am just glad I have sheep and not horses (it's the owners ) to maintain a landscape.

Thanks for all the replies.... I can only have this land whilst their cattle are inside for the winter, but it is ideal to watch the breeding activity of my sheep and gives my paddocks a rest. :)

You can't put a price on being able to watch them from your own windows, especially in winter
with night bins :thumbsup:

Well it is pitch dark here at 1700 :( . I think it is less disruptive to the sheep to watch them from a distance at night - and you can see who/what else is around. 8)

I have a similar question too... I have 4.5 acres in North Shropshire that I would like to be grazed by sheep over the winter just to keep it tidy... Water, shelter, good access... If you know anybody that may be interested!!!
