Title: Hand cut grass for ewes
Post by: twizzel on February 24, 2017, 08:27:10 am
My first ewe lambed a week ago and unfortunately became very sick with a suspect bleed and infection. She's pulled through thanks to the cocktail of drugs the vet gave her and her milk seems to be coming back now she's eating some coarse mix. The weather is dodgy here for the next few days and I haven't got any other ewes to put her out with yet, so I was wondering if I can cut her some grass just to help her milk supply ? Or is it a big no no with regards to digestive upset ?

If she's been eating hay then grass should be no problem.  I find fresh, clean grass, especially if it has things like cow parsley or dandelion leaves in with it, always goes down very well with poorly sheep.

Ok thanks. She's eating hay, barley straw and course mix... pretty remarkable really seeing on Monday we weren't sure she would make it through the night  I will cut her some grass later  :)

Find her some small willow branches with the pussy willow bits on too - she'll nibble those.
