All my lambs are weighing about 30kg now until this year I've never normally weighted them just felt and thought yes there ready off they went I am looking at 2 that I would usually off taken but only weighting 31kg...they are all texel X
-
If Texel x commercial type you probably want them 40kgs minimum; if for your own consumption probably at least 45kgs maybe up to 50-52kgs.
If Texel x primitive, 35-36kgs may be more of a reasonable target.
Don't forget that at least 2kgs of what they weigh at home is stomach contents ;)
-
I always send them at 40kg and above, if its for butcher I normally send them a bit leaner than if selling for fat at the auction but at least 88lbs (just under 40kg but its what my weigher works in)
-
We send them at 39-42kgs.
-
Thanks everyone few more weeks for them plenty off grass anyway mind!

Our tame lambs are mostly Texel x and go at 42-50kg roughly...all private kill though they would be too heavy for market and if sold direct to abattoir. We don't have scales but are getting fairly good at feeling when they are ready to go :)
