confused over worming!`
« on: August 13, 2013, 12:44:38 pm »
Hi, 2 months ago I wormed my adults with Oramec, 1 month after that took samples to vets for FEC check - all came back clear.

Yesterday I was skipping out and caught one of Audrey's poos whereupon there was a tiny white wriggling piece of cotton lookalike.  I duly took this to the vet who said all was clear and he could find no eggs or wriggling worm and not to worry!!

Now what do I do?

I don't know enough to be sure but is it possible the worm was in the soil and has moved into the stool from the surrounding ground or a nearby ditch/stream? I'm sure someone else with more knowledge than I have will be able to say if this is the possible reason  .

I've just found a wriggling white worm too!  I watched it being poo'ed out so off to vet....

Ah, the life of a goat-keeper!

Let me know what your vet says!  I don't understand if the sample is clear and you've wormed why there is a worm?

The life cycle of a worm is 10-14 days.     So if your goat has had a worm problem then worming 14-21 days later would be recommended.
BUT   all animals carry a few worms in the gut.......this is normal.    What your Vet probably meant was the worm count was considered clear as it was within normal parameters !
Oramec is an excellent product..............but worming too often is also not good because of a resistance to the wormer can build up.
I worm only 3 times a year................. May, Sept/Oct, and January.

Vet said it was probably a section of tapeworm and not to worry
