A day celebrating and exploring British wool.

Run alongside Greenhead Farmers’ Market.

There will be vendors selling any and everything to do with or made from British wool (much of it local); local spinners, knitters, crocheters and other crafters will be undertaking Sheep to Shawl on the Wall (commencing with handclipping a sheep who grazes alongside Hadrian’s Wall at 10am!) as well as showing and demonstrating related equipment, techniques etc.

Website : Wool on the Wall
Ravelry event : Wool on the Wall (Ravelry event)

Sounds really interesting! I've also added a post for this on the North Pennines Smallholders website as well...

Great, thanks!  That's very kind of you.  :-*

You've been a little fast off the blocks and cut-and-paste the info from the inaugural event which was in 2012.

This will be the second.  (We're going for biennial ;) )

It's on July 13th this year, and the event timetable will be different - not yet finalised and therefore not yet published.  This time we're doing "Sheep to Shawl on the Wall" rather than sheep shearing demos throughout the day.

If you wouldn't mind correcting your post!  Especially the date!

Great, thanks

There will be something on Facebook in due course, linked to the Farmers' Market, but I'm not sure exactly what or where yet.  I'll invite you [to like it] when it's up

bump!  It's this coming Sunday!  :excited:

As well as all the many and varied stalls and exhibitors Celebrating British Wool, we'll be doing a maximum participation Sheep to Shawl challenge; we've spinners and knitters coming from all over (at least 6 counties and two or three countries!) to lend a hand or two!   :D

BH will be hand-clipping 4 or 5 sheep during the morning; the first of which donates the fleece for the challenge.  (Although actually we are spinning a fleece that we have already washed, in order to maximise participation ;)  But we won't start until BH puts the handclippers down.)

You can like the event on Facebook now, and Follow it on Twitter @WoolontheWall

Do come along (in real life! :D) if you can get there, and if you can bring any or all of a spinning wheel, spindle, dog comb, knitting needles (size 6mm), to lend a hand, so much the better!   :D

Devon is a bit far away for me to come, and we have B and B guests this weekend, so I wish you all a great weekend, and I would have loved to take part. Perhaps next time!

Oh brilliant!  You can be #1 Shearer's Helper, please!   I'd been wondering how I was going to split myself in two... ;)

We're bringing Charlie2 and her this year's Texel lamb, a Dutch Texel x and her 3/4 Dutch Texel lamb, Sophie as backup, Dora (Charlie1's last year's lamb, Shetland x) and Goldie Horn (Castlemilk Moorit.)  So Charlie2, Dora and Goldie are all tame :)

Hopefully the two "Soft Fell" fleeces (Charlie2 and the DTx) will be good enough to sell on the day.  (Ostensibly the Sheep to Shawl uses the first one clipped, which will be the DTx, but in fact we have one just like it already washed ready to use, so can sell the one we clip on the day.)  Dora's fleece is spoken for, and I will hold onto Goldie's, too.

Shall you spin :spin: and/or knit :knit: with us?
