OMG, its terrible but there must be something wrong with the couple. I feel pity for them. They were living in the same conditions too.

Mel, this may come as a bit of a shock to you .....Cumbria is not in Wales.....

The most amazing part of this horror story is the fact that the RSPCA actually did something ......

Share Bionics views. Yes, awful neglect but the couple themselves must have problems and themselves be in desperate need of help.

We had a similar problem with a dog breeder in Erewash - the troops rallied and got them shut down 24 hours after we got photographs, RSPCA, Council etc - but they were living in the same conditions too - beggars belief that anyone would want to?

I know of a couple of dog incidences like this in Cumbria, these are the cases that you never know whats going to be at the end of the phone call. Could be just another irate person , that nothing comes of but a slagging for the RSPCA  ....or it could be a horrific case like this that makes all the verbal  abuse worth while. This is why all calls are checked just like a Childline for animals. It is shocking to know what can be out there. Even in the small town where I lived the cruelty was unbelievable. It is very sad as well, obviously this is a situation that got out of hand , not actual physical cruelty but horrific ignorance and neglect.

That is terrible - made me feel quite sick. Sitting with my snow white Westie that was groomed today does not help.
I agree that owners in these cases really must be quite in need of help to inflict such on the animals and live in such squaller thmselves.Sad on all accounts.

It is sad.  Sounds more like a case of mental illness to me for a couple to live in that state and to have so many animals living with them.  I agree, though, that they shouldn't be allowed to keep animals again.

It is a very sad case for the animals and owners.

Unfortunately I really get  at journalistic views which make things even worse. The situation with faeces and animal welfare is bad enough but I cannot see starved animals amongst the faeces and muck. The dogs are much fatter than my lean bunch!

Im not saying this is not a cruel  situation, of course, but interpreting situations and adding to it is only adding fuel to some people towards a sad situation.
These people obviously need serious help as it seems they cannot look after themselves let alone animals if they are living in such conditions.  They are obviously feeding the dogs but cannot cope suffice with other major aspects of animal welfare.

We, the public, would see the situation for what it truly is if there is a video of the whole visit rather than the odd photo and journalist title to accompany it.

Well said, MS.

I want a press that is free to report the truth.  I'd like shot of the sensationalist unscrupulous fear-mongering crowd-fuelling mob we do have.

The problem is that plain truth doesn't sell newspapers.  Sensationalism does.

Only partly true.  I used to buy newspapers.  I do not buy the sensationalist rags that are produced now.

Never nice to see & unfortunately working in a vets you do occasionally see the odd cruelty case, it's just unfortunate there are always going to be cases like this around no matter how much you try & prevent them - I think I know one of the rescues involved in this case x.
