We were buying a tiny cottage in Cornwall with roses around the door backing onto a forest in a tiny hamlet but our sale fell through twice so move up to Scotland.....now we want to move again and seen many houses that are ideal but gone, so who knows.....I would happily go to Wales or anywhere!!!!!! but mind you, I actualy do love it here and feel at home, must be something in my blood and routes, mums family were from the midlothian area and I so love some houses around there!!!!

Initially 93 miles from Amersham to Nr Worcester but that wasn't our smallholding, that was just to be in the countryside...another 8 miles brought us to our smallholding 7 yrs later. We couldn't have afforded what we have now in the home counties at all.
Next dream is Wales....
Smallholding in Worcestershire, making goats milk soap for www.itsbaaathtime.com and mum to 4 girls,  goats, sheep, chickens, dog, cat and garden snails...

Couldn't afford Exmoor/Somerset/Devon, biz partner wouldn't go to Wales or Scotland, so we came up to Northumberland.
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

just been looking at carmarthenshire..some beautiful places ...
and yes prices down here are expensive, shame really ... one thing that gets right up my nose is..planning permission for holiday lets... if its good enough for holidays..then why can't it be good enough to let someone become part of the area and contribute, and then they moan that locals can't afford housing in their area...yet some very rich banker from london can have a spare place to visit...sorry..rant over

we moved from the SE (St Albans) to NW Devon. We principally chose the SW over other areas as we wanted to be rural, but close to centres of population for business purposes, we deal in 2nd hand books and collectables and need to be near areas where we can buy stock. We do love it here, but are often shocked at how sub urban everyone is, even people who've lived here all their lives. I did want to move to Wales as our money would've bought a whole lot more there, but mrs M wasn't so keen (despite her mum coming from wales).
Now wifey is saying we should've moved to Wales...

About 70 miles ..... to Mid Wales.

We think it is beautiful here and wouldn't move to many other locations. My nan's surname was Pugh so you can guess where she came from and this does feel like "home".

Love Exmoor though.

And we only get a little bit of rain here in Wales  :innocent: :eyelashes: ;D

We are in the Peak District, in Derbyshire.  Everything is expensive housewise, landed or not.  Our land is separate from the house, which is a cheaper option.....athough land here reaches ridiculous prices even for a tiny paddock.

We did look at selling up everthing, and moving further North.  Lancashire, Northumberland, Scottish Borders.  But looking at it logically, much as I would love to do this - in a few years its unlikely we will want to be slogging all hours outdoors, and having had a few health issues, its made us realise we needed to downsize - not take on more work in the form of a farmhouse in need of modernisation (which is all we could probably afford)> Been there and done it, and the cost and sheer hard work makes you think twice about repeating it.

So, for the time being, we have kept the land, and bought a tiny coalminers cottage, which fingers crossed should be completed on very soon.

150 miles or so South - to be nearer my kids and dog shows and tests and trials for HPRs.  Unfortunately house prices were similar but for much less land so I only have an acre.  I'd happily move to a smaller house with more land if I could sell this place.  I like my home but I don't love it like I have all my previous houses.
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age
