Shetland bull calf for sale

We’re advertising for sale the dun and white Shetland bull calf born here on Monday 9th February 2015. This is a time-limited opportunity because he will be castrated on Sunday 15th February if he’s not reserved.

The calf, as yet unnamed, is by Hollins Storm (red and white), out of Rosedean Tempest (dun and white). This is Rosedean Tempest’s first calf, but her dam (Beadies Breeze) has produced three dun and white calves to three different bulls (two B&W, one R&W).

The calf’s Coefficient of Inbreeding is 6.57% and he shows no Templeson Boris or Collafirth Rasmie in five generations.

The Rosedean Herd has been tested (January 2015) free from BVD, IBR and Johne’s Disease; as a Scottish based herd, we are TB free.

As you would expect of Shetlands, both Breeze and Tempest have calved without assistance, with calves being up and suckled without intervention. Both have good feet and udders, are docile and halter trained.

We are asking £500 for the calf at weaning (probably September time), with payment being made now. In the event of the calf dying or suffering any serious accident that might affect his breeding ability (in the professional opinion of our vet), a full refund will be made immediately. In the event of the buyer defaulting, the payment will be refunded less the cost of having the calf castrated by our veterinary surgeon.

We are happy to deliver the weaned bull calf at cost. We will register him as Rosedean Valiant, with the Shetland Cattle Herd Book Society.
