lamb eating split maize
« on: July 21, 2010, 09:18:52 pm »
Hi,
I'm new and am hoping for some advice please!
One of my best lambs has knocked over the geese's split maize storage bin and scoffed lots of it. This was a couple of days ago and she has since had what can only be described as a very runny tummy. She has been lying down all day now and only drunk a bit of water. I have just gone and dragged her upto one of the stables and put her in.
Am I right in assuming it's the maize? Is there anything I can do to help/save her? I'm really worried. Do I call the vets?

Thanks so much (in advance!)

we had similar problem with  a ewe that got to the creep feed and gorged herself......vet suggested bicarbonate of soda in water as a drench  and inject penstrep............worked for us   good luck

Thanks very much. I have given her a bicarb drench and will do another at lunchtime. Fingers crossed!
