Slaughter weight of kids?
« on: June 26, 2017, 01:23:03 pm »
Hello, this year we have had 9 gorgeous boer X kids and all have to go for meat as we do not have the room to keep them.
We have not had so many kids before. Normally we keep them until January and send them together with the previous years tup but this year we think we will have the luxury of choosing the bigger ones to go off earlier.
At what weight do you send your kids off ? Thank you

Check the Boer goat society website, they will have more info on slaughter weights...

From what I hear from other folk, about the 45kg liveweight same as lambs( to do with portion size) but depends on who its for.

Thank you. It's for us so we can be fairly flexible but we want to balance speed of turnover and meat return. Will get OH on the scales then!!

I was told that as long as the lamb/goat etc are fully weaned they can be culled at any time/weight..That was a few years ago when williams of Weobley were operating.

A mate of mine has just had 3 boer X processed  2 were 35kg one was 29kg Live weights.

5 Dogs,5 cats,40 chickens,2badger faced sheep + a full freezer

We breed boers and aim to send the kids at 40kglw. We get about 50% return. We creep feed from a few weeks old and continue to feed til slaughter.
