I found a package on my doorstep a few days ago, this address but for someone I've never heard of. I've asked neighbours but no-one knows her.
Now, normally I would send it back with an explanation but this package has come from China and I am very reluctant to pay carriage to there.
I don't even know who delivered the package, postman says not him.
I don't know how to go about finding this person but neither do I like to think about someone waiting in vain for her parcel.
What to do?

I'd open it to see what it is.

Have you ordered anything similar for yourself recently?  Perhaps the names and addresses have gotten out of sync in their database (I've seen this happen before, where the addresses on envelopes didn't match the names on the letters inside).

I'd open it and judge by what's in the parcel wether to chase it up further. Might just be a free sample or something similar.

If it came from china then there ought to be some clue as to senders name etc and doubtless you can trace them/ask them what they want to do. If they want it back they can pay the carriage. Or if contents are cheap tat then keep or bin. If very valuable and not decared to avoid duties then retire to central america..

I'd wait for 2 weeks to see if anyone claims it then open it to see where it came from or if there's any more info

I would (and have done) open it to look for further clues - receipt or invoice would at least give you seller info?

I'm with Yorkshire Lass - open it and see if there is any sort of clue

Don't open it .... deliver to police station and let them open it.   .... just in case your address is being used for something illegal???

I was told by a postman that any mail that came through our door was legally ours. (This was when we were getting mail for the lady that had moved out ages before without giving us a forwarding address). I did think it was strange at the time. I would take it to the police.

Open it, we all want to know what's in it now,
pygmy goats, gsd, border collie, scots dumpys, cochins, araucanas, shetland ducks and geese,  marrans, and pea fowl in a pear tree.

If you open it have an unrelated witness present so that you have someone who can stand up in court and say that you have not stolen or damaged anything.

Alternatively, you can scrub out your address on the front and leave the name, put "Moved return to sender" and take it back to the post office or if it will fit in a post box re-post it. That's what we do at work, it doesn't cost you anything, you haven't opened it and then it is no longer your problem :)
