Sharpening Dagging Shears
« on: April 29, 2017, 07:58:09 am »
Hi folks, Please can somebody tell me how to sharpen my dagging shears?

They're this type, and frankly weren't up to much when I bought them (or maybe that was me  ;D ). They're even worse now, to the point of being unusable:

So what's the best tool to use to sharpen them, and by what method?

Thanks!!

Never sharpened dagging shears Womble, but it looks rather difficult to do. I guess the blades need to be securely held apart with a wooden block, but not so far as to strain the spring handle. I'd then use a diamond file as mine is only 3mm thick so should fit between the blades (DMT from USA). I think a stone wouldn't fit in.

Might be cheaper just to buy a new pair of shears?

I could sharpen them easily but can't describe how so that you could do it . Some good youtube videos  showing how .  Sharpness is only half of how they work  as they need to be set correctly remember  blades not flat but slightly curved and need to be closely touching along the full length  .  Jakoti far simpler  ;)

I get a local man who repairs lawnmowers to do mine, and they come back cutting like new.
Like shep53 says, the sharpening is easy with a stone but I can never get the angle right myself.
