Weaners not hungry!
« on: April 06, 2017, 08:19:49 am »
This is our third year buying 3 weaners and fattening them up. Previous years they have eaten like, well, pigs! Food gone quickly, eaten noisily etc. This year they were bought at the same age from the same breeder, are the same breed, are given the same amount of food (not an exessive amount). But they race over, eat a few mouthfulls and then head back off to root around and dig. They mainly sleep or dig, we have never had pigs that dug so much. Anyway the question is, are they just eating lots of grass etc, or should we worry they arent wolfing their food down? Many thanks in advance.

PS they have about a third of an acre to dig in, a third of which is already dug!

They sound just fine. If they need the nuts they will eat them.

If this is their first time outside they will be finding lots of new things to nibble at and taste, this will be filling them up, when they get hungry they will find the food.
Just keep an eye on the level of water in the trough to make sure they are drinking, if not, try to encourage them, if that doesn't work pour water over them, they will love it and should drink at the excess.
