Growing Garlic Concerns
« on: March 10, 2017, 01:04:36 pm »
Afternoon all,

I've got a couple of large pots in which I am currently growing garlic. Recently I'm noticed the tips of some of the leaves going brown. I planted no more than 3 cloves in each of the pots in November, all of which have come through, and up until now they seem to have been going well.

I planted them in a multi-purpose compost and feed with fish, blood and bone which seems to have kept them ticking over so far. Should I be concerned about the leaves going a bit brown at the ends and if so what are the possible problems/solutions?

Thanks

Chris

Best, if you can, to plant your garlic into a bed, it sounds a bit stressed.

Rule of thumb with any potted plant looking iffy is - pull out the plug of soil and have a look; can be too dry/waterlogged/poor or excessive nutrient/pH balance or parasites/predators.

brown tips is usually underwatering. but this year I'm more likely to suspect drowning!lift the pot to ensure that water can drain out of the holes at the bottom

Thanks all, my father-in-law was of a similar mind regarding the watering situation. I moved the pots over the weekend and made sure there is sufficient space underneath that water can drain away. Hopefully they'll look a little happier soon!
