I've been grazing two of my new fields hard, as they were overgrown and matted around the edges, but they're quite sparse in the centre area which was cut for hay over the summer.
I'm planning to leave the sheep on them for a few more weeks, move them out to the field on the point as soon as the weather's kind enough (probably mid to end of February) and then put the horses on them for a couple of weeks in March to munch all the field rushes flat.
If I then harrow in the horse poo, rest for a couple of weeks, harrow again and overseed, would I be okay to take hay again in late summer (we don't cut until late July at the very earliest up here) or should I do one field a year and keep the overseeded one lightly grazed with sheep so the new growth doesn't get swamped?
