Tamworth's who aren't fattening
« on: December 23, 2016, 10:34:07 pm »
Hi

My 13yr old son, an aspiring farmer/smallholder, has been rearing pigs since September. He's had 3 Old Whites and 5 Tamworth's. The Old Whites have grown nicely as you'd expect and 2 have already made their way to customers/the freezer.  However the Tamworth's still aren't really fattening that well. They're on a diet of grower pellets and rolled barley and being fed almost 2.2kg/head/day. Protein is about 16%. They were born end of June and are probably around 45-50kg each. Any ideas as to how to move them on a little faster would be greatly appreciated. He's done so well so far but could do with a little advice at this stage ????  Thanks.
