Dividing large field into paddocks
« on: December 12, 2016, 05:07:29 pm »
Hi all,

I have two 7 acre fields. One is our hay field so will be left as it is, but I am wanting to fence the other to create some smaller paddocks and make it more useful for us.

My question is, do I need any permission or need to inform anyone before I do this?

Thanks,
Charlotte

if your getting single farm payment you might.....can't see it would make any difference...I had a visiting inspector from RPA who updated the field boundaries. He did knock off a few patches of ground which had been fenced off  from my total acreage.
Make your gate posts really wide...tractors are getting wider..you never know what vehicle may require access  in the future?

I can't imagine you're going to make very very small paddocks, but there is an area under which the land becomes inellgible for Basic Payment - I think it might be 0.1ha but I might be wrong.

You should notify Defra because you are creating new fields. In Scotland you fill out a Land Management Form, I think and you'll get new field numbers.

Agree about the gates.
