a bit sad here- we have two chooks in 'hospital' cages with sinusitis and a cold.  They are on anti-b's and we are hoping will get better.

We are lucky to have a great chicken vet locally who gets our obsession with the girls.

Just wanted to put it out there to people who I know will understand.

We lost one of our girls overnight, not the original sick one - she went downhill really fast.  So now keeping a close eye on the others - she wasn't in the same run as the original sick chook, so not sure what it was. Very sad here today.  :( :chook:

Might it be mycoplasma?

Yes, sounds exactly like it, doesn't it, I guess that's why she's on ABs. I'm guessing that 'sinusitis and cold' are what the vet compared it to by way of explanation... (I might be wrong, little niggling worry in the back of my head)

Hi all, have googled mycoplasma and the ABs we are giving her suggest that is what it could be.

Posh Brown seems to be doing OK.   :fc:

She'll be fine, probably, usually over and done with in well under a fortnight.
Birds can't get our human kind of sinusitis and cold but they can get respiratory infections. When a flock carries myco it can be triggered by stress, but often it's not obvious why one bird gets ill. Good luck to Posh Brown  :)
