wooden gate posts
« on: October 21, 2016, 11:00:33 am »
Sorry for the beginners question. I'm currently building a chicken run from 6foot high building site fences and want to have a gate between 2 of the panels. I have some 5cm x 7 cm wood to build a frame for the gate. How deep and wide should i dig the hole to cement in the gate posts?
Thanks
William

If the posts in the fence are properly laid you wont need to dig a hole for the door - just put the hinges on a fence post thats already there.

A gatepost 6ft out of the ground  normally is 3ft in the ground , sit it on a bed of hard core to allow drainage rather than concrete  .  About 50% bigger than your post should be fine 100% will be ok just needs more cement
