Our first couple of days...
« on: July 23, 2016, 08:47:27 am »
Wednesday this week was spent loading up 2 lorries. A 7.5tonne for the house stuff, and an 18 tonne for the garden and garage stuff.

Thursday began at 6am when the removal men came back to load up our mattress and fridge, as the last 2 items. We then all drove from West Berkshire to sunny Devon. Clearly the rest of that day was spent unloading the lorries.

Then yesterday (Friday) the hay contractor came round (having cut and turned about 25 acres of grass for us this week), and he bailed 900 small bales. We followed in the disco with an ebay-purchased caravan chassis trailer, taking loads of 60 bales at a time back to the temporary rick (no barn yet).

Today (Saturday) looks like being much the same. Off to taunton to pick up another cheap caravan chassis trailer this morning, then another 900 bales this afternoon. Also got the sparky and tv aerial blokes coming around today.

This is bonkers :)

Love it though. Oh... except I broke my little toe on Monday this week, and it's pretty painful now.

Well done Harmony  :roflanim:

Farmershort - watch out for caravan chassis - they don't have the strength of a normal trailer.

So, this is your new life and this is how it will be.  You're never bored on a smallholding  :farmer:  Congratulations on arriving and I hope you love it, and that your 'bonkers' today becomes your norm tomorrow.

So pleased it's all worked out for you - I was following the thread on the exchange of contracts with horror and fascination!.... You're in Devon now - so it can all only go swimmingly! Enjoy.
