Urgent question - goat about to kid
« on: May 06, 2016, 01:16:48 pm »
We have a first time kidder just about on due date. A bit grotty round the back end but it looks more like scour than the start of kidding.
V dark and a bit grainy if you know what I mean.
Should I be worried?
Thanks

Yes - if this is your first time and hers I would speak to the vet. Is she otherwise fit and fine and in herself? Does the discharge come from her anus (Diarrhoea) or the vulva (birthing fluids - which if dark brown indicate that kid(s) is in distress or dead inside. Is she trying to push?

Thank you. No pushing yet but she is definitely acting a bit strange and pushing her head against the fence posts.
She seems ok
Eating etc
Will phone vet
Thanks again

Pushing her head against the wall or similar is normal as she concentrates on kidding, but the discharge would worry me.

Vet not called back  :-[. That's the second time now.
Anyway phoned a goat guru friend who suggested worming and coppering. We don't hold antibiotics or we would do that too.
She is hiding in the house right now. I am sure she is kidding
Looks like it's going to be a long night!!
Thank you for asking

How did it all go? Did the vet call back at all? :)

So sorry. Only just managed to get into wifi. She is much improved but no kids yet. However looks like the wormer and / or copper helped.
Thank you again for advice and support
