Gilts mounting each other
« on: April 29, 2016, 11:35:19 am »
Hello
We picked up 4 gilts at the weekend (15 weeks - definitely girls  -we have checked many times)
Yesterday we noticed that one of them was "mounting" the others (particularly one of the others) repeatedly

We have young boars on site but they are nowhere near these girls

is this a pecking order thing or have I got bigger problems

Thanks

  Gilts will very often mount each other when in season, its just hormones kicking in !!. Its also part of playing either way its pretty normal.
we can still learn if we are willing to listen.

It's also dominance behaviour that stops short of fighting or biting.  She may well have been the dominant gilt before and is asserting her authority in a new situation.
