Everyone ready for the storm?
« on: January 28, 2016, 06:27:57 pm »
Gertrude is due in overnight, we're due winds of up to 75mph on the north coast with added rain or snow.  Everything's tied down, all sheep and horses are in the lowest fields with shelter and hay - let's just hope the power stays on!

Hope everyone else comes through it okay.  Stay safe.

Some of the gale avoidance things we do on our hilltop include using tyres and sleepers to hold things down, open doors to sheds so the wind can go through rather than resist, and cut down all trees within falling distance of the house (was very glad about this when winds hit 110 mph last Winter - why did the previous owners plant poplars and an aspen so close to the farmhouse anyway?)
