RSPB 'cats guilty of decimating bird population'
« on: December 11, 2015, 11:32:51 am »
In a recent report by the RSPB, they state that cats in the UK are responsible for killing 55 Million birds annually  :o , millions of times more than any hunting/shooting activities. One wonders if they will now propose a total ban on the keeping of cats? . They omitted to acknowledge that cats are a valuable pest controller of rats and mice and that cats make excellent pets and companions.

Based on there being around 8.5 million cats in the UK, I don't find this shocking at all. That's only 6.5 birds per cat per year. I'm actually  surprised it's not more.

I'm not sure how this is relevant- cats are unlikely to be killing game birds which are bred to be shot.
No one is going to ban cats and yes, they are useful for pest control.
