Hi

I have a 5 year old Berkshire Sow who has been kept as a pet, sadly due to a change in circumstances that I did not envisage 5 years ago, I am no longer able to look after her.  I have been told that as she has not produced any litters she will be baron so no body is really interested in taking her for me.  I have tried many rescues and sanctuary's but it seems there are so many unwanted pigs out there, if I can not rehome her, then I will have to have her destroyed, which leads me to my question.  How do I go about getting her put down, obviously a I can the vet out, but then I am left with the problem of disposing of her carcass, any suggestions.

Lynn,

I'm guessing you've tried to get her in pig but she's not taken? Where are you in the country?

The fallen stock / knacker man should have the ability to dispatch (captive bolt gun) and collect. It's quick and she'll not know anything about it if she's got her head in a bucket of feed.
I know you'll find the thought abhorrent, but she'd make good bacon and sausages - if you can't bear to take her or eat her yourself (and I completely understand that) someone else might?

As above, would be a waste not to surely?

Where in the country are you?
